Roland Goertz, MD, MBA, Waco Family Health Center CEO is AAFP president-elect

Waco Family Health Center and the Waco Family Medicine Residency Program are proud to announce the election of Dr. Roland Goertz to the position of president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Delegates from all 50 states plus several territories recently gathered in Boston, Massachusetts for the annual Congress of Delegates and the annual Scientific Assembly. Their final act on October 14 was the election of Dr. Goertz. As AAFP president-elect. Dr. Goertz will serve as a national advocate for family physicians. He has already been actively engaged in advising health policy makers on a national level for some time. This is a position of great importance in such times of significant change and we are proud to have Dr. Goertz elected by his peers to represent our specialty on a national level. The AAFP represents roughly 94,600 physicians and medical students. Dr. Goertz takes over as president on Sept. 29, 2010. Dr. Goertz has served on the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians from 2006-2009. He is currently on the board of TransforMED, investigating best practices for the patient-centered medical home model and developing tools to assist practices in its implementation.. He chairs the Texas higher education coordinating board's advisory committee on family medicine residencies. He is a past president of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, has practiced as a rural physician, and was awarded the AAFP's 2006 Robert Graham Family Physician Executive Award. He also received an MBA from Baylor University in 2003.
