The Waco Family Medicine Residency Program is enhanced by its location in a pleasant, clean air city within 100 miles of both Dallas and Austin.  As a leading city in central Texas, Waco offers attractive educational, cultural and recreational opportunities while avoiding some of the problems associated with larger metropolitan areas.  Hillcrest Health System and Providence Health Center, for example, are only about 10 minutes apart and can be reached within 15 minutes from virtually any residential area.  Waco's cost of living index is among the nation's lowest, yet it has one of the state's fastest growing economies.

Waco is home to more than 15 museums and attractions, including the Texas Ranger Museum, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Dr. Pepper Museum, The Art Center, the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village and the Armstrong Browning Library.  The historic Suspension Bridge, the Hippodrome Theatre, quaint brick walkways, a river walk and the early homes of Waco bring the past alive.  Waco caters to many tastes with its own symphony, opera group, natural habitat zoo, and a thriving downtown entertainment district.

Lake Waco and the Brazos River provide facilities for fishing and water sports.  The area around Waco is well-suited to camping, hunting, fishing and canoeing.  A number of country clubs, tennis centers and exercise centers are open for membership, plus there are active programs for youth soccer and baseball.  Several family-style events, such as the Brazos River Festival and the Cotton Palace Pageant, are held annually.
